What is the Teatro Verdi like?
A jewel box of about 300 seats inside the Rocca Pallavicino, opened on 15 August 1868 with Rigoletto and Un ballo in maschera. The standard guided visit takes about 30 minutes.
The architect was Pier Luigi Montecchini, and the ceiling medallions of Comedy, Tragedy, Melodrama and Romantic Drama are by Isacco Gioacchino Levi. Verdi opposed the project, yet gave 10,000 lire towards it; he never attended a performance. Visits run Tuesday to Sunday, 9:30 to 12:30 and 14:30 to 17:30, for EUR 6 (EUR 5 reduced), and a 40-minute behind-the-scenes visit costs EUR 12. In October, the Festival Verdi stages opera here.

The home of Antonio Barezzi, the merchant and music lover who backed the young Verdi. Verdi gave his first public performance in its salon in February 1830.
Barezzi and Ferdinando Provesi founded Busseto's Filarmonica in 1816, and it met here. Verdi taught Barezzi's daughter Margherita and later married her. Inside you see a historic piano, a portrait of Barezzi, the earliest known charcoal drawing of the young Verdi, letters, and the dedication of Macbeth to Barezzi in 1847. Casa Barezzi is at Via Roma 119 (+39 0524 931117), open Tuesday to Sunday with guided visits.

In Piazza Verdi, in front of the Rocca Pallavicino: a seated bronze by Luigi Secchi, unveiled in 1913 for the centenary of Verdi's birth.
The piazza is Busseto's living room, framed by porticoes and cafes, with the Rocca and its clock tower at one end. The Teatro Verdi is inside the Rocca, so the statue is the natural meeting point: the private Verdi tours on Viator meet nearby, at Piazza Matteotti 10, at the start of Via Roma.

The museum recalls the 1533 meeting of Emperor Charles V and Pope Paul III Farnese at the villa. Hours: April to October, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 18:30; November to 6 January, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:30; from 7 January to 17 March, weekends only (weekdays for booked groups). It is closed on Mondays. Reduced tickets cost EUR 7 for seniors and students, and entry is free under 10.

A museum of the great soprano Renata Tebaldi in the old stables, the Scuderie, of Villa Pallavicino. It is included in the EUR 22 four-site ticket.
