How do you get from Busseto to Verdi's birthplace at Roncole?

By taxi, bike or car: Roncole Verdi is about 5 km from Busseto, and there is no station in the village.

The roads are flat, which makes the ride easy on a bike on a mild day. Taxi fares are not published, so agree the price and the return trip when you book. Is there a bus from Parma to Busseto?

Yes: Busseto Live gives about 55 minutes by bus from Parma. Check the current timetable before you travel.

The bus is a useful option on days when the train connection at Fidenza is awkward; ask about weekend and holiday services. From Busseto, the last 5 km to Roncole are still by taxi, bike or car.

How do you drive to Busseto and Roncole?

Take the A1 motorway to the Fidenza exit, then the SP 588R north to Busseto. Roncole lies just south-east of Busseto, on the way.

From Parma it is about 32 to 40 km. The birthplace address is Via della Processione 1, Roncole Verdi. With a car you can add the Teatro Verdi and Casa Barezzi in Busseto, and drive past Villa Verdi at Sant'Agata, about 3.5 km north of Busseto; it is closed, so see it only from outside. The nearest airport is Parma, about 45 km away.

Can you visit Busseto as a day trip from Milan?

Yes: by train it takes at least 1 hour 20 minutes each way, plus the wait for the connection at Fidenza, or go by car on the A1. Avoid Mondays, when the Verdi sites are closed.

From Parma, the train to Fidenza takes about 24 minutes on average; from Bologna, take the main line through Parma to Fidenza, then change for Busseto.
